My time behind the lens

In 2022 I worked with a professional dog photographer for a little over a year as a lighting assistant & second shooter.  I went on my own in 2023, and now in 2026 it's hard to believe I ever went without a camera!

I shot my first Capital Pride drag extravaganza in August 2023 - I was out practicing with a new polarizing filter and came across it by chance. In 2024 I asked for a media pass and was welcomed to my first festival, something I'd repeat again in 2025 and 2026.

In August 2025 I shot my first wedding. It was a wonderful experience & I'm looking forward to building on it - but for now I am offering this only to friends and family.

From October 2025 onward I've been primarily shooting small stage variety events & home studio sessions.

FAQ

This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?

By the time you're in the same room as a camera, you'll know what to expect. We'll discuss your needs, your wants, and how we can work with each other to get the best deliverables possible.

What will you want to know for that email? You've got a camera. You might be holding one while reading this. You could take some photos, but you're reaching out - you want something more, and that's exactly what I want to give you. What is it you want MGL Valentine to help you capture?

Are travel expenses included in your packages?

For events, yes. If you're in central Ottawa, you're good. If you're in the suburbs additional charges may apply. I don't currently have a vehicle - this is a priority and I am looking forward to offering greatly expanded range & services with a portable studio in the near future!

Can you recommend any good locations?

I'm a big fan of the arboreteum in Ottawa. It's versatile - amazing fall colours, not bad when covered in snow either - and accessible. It's good for pets, family, grad/engagement/basically everything. There's no extra cost for a photo permit. You can shoot by the water, on the bridges, there's paths with trees arching above you, stone walls & wood fences that make perfect props for your dog!

What if the weather is bad on the day of an outdoor shoot?

Bad weather happens! We'll find another reasonable date, as soon as possible for both of us with respect to our schedules.
